Alana Lea: Textile Artist

Alana Lea is a botanical / textile artist whose work integrates old-world character with contemporary verve. Her signature works are digital collage featuring exquisitely rendered botanical watercolors in a precise, yet lively style.

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Alana has called many of the world’s most colorful cities home. Forgoing a traditional education, she opted instead for the school of life experience, spending a year each in France, Morocco, England and Puerto Rico, working alongside local craftspeople.

The eclectic appeal of Alana’s work has garnered the attention of such diverse clients as the Smithsonian Institution, Fine Gardening Magazine and the Amazon Herb Company. Her paintings and prints reside in private collections throughout the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Brazil. They have been exhibited at the Bruce Museum of Arts and Sciences and at the Smithsonian.

In 2009 Alana returned to Brazil to launch “Rainforest Eco,” a fair trade, organic, eco-textile company whose mission is to generate sustainable revenues for reRainforestation projects in Mata Atlantica, the most diverse and endangered rainforest on the planet. Her botanicals are printed with plant and water based dyes on fair trade, organic cotton, silk and linen for wholesale distribution to the trade.
